Rolf started his career in the Bay Area training with ACT’s Young Conservatory and working for the RENAISSANCE and DICKENS FAIRES, was a founding member of the BERKELEY MIME TROUPE and performed in the inaugural season of the BERKELEY SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL (now CAL SHAKES). He then moved to London after having been offered a place at GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DRAMA where upon graduation, he was awarded the Gold Medal. While at Guildhall, he was a founder member and a director of the OMPHALOS STREET THEATRE COMPANY, performing works by Chaucer, Moliere and Shakespeare among others, at festivals throughout the UK, including The Edinburgh Festival (nominated for a Fringe First Award) and the Festival of the City of London
His theatre credits include the British/European premieres of: Donald Margulies’ Pulitzer Prize winning DINNER WITH FRIENDS playing Gabe (Hampstead Theatre, London), two Neil Simon plays, Eddie in LOST IN YONKERS (Strand Theatre, London’s West End) and Milt in LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR with Gene Wilder (Queen’s Theatre, West End), Juan in SHORT EYES by Miguel Pinero (Man in the Moon Theatre, London), created the role of Al in Rick Johnston’s CAHOOTS, (The Mill Theatre), created the role of Stephen Marx in Carl Djerassi’s THREE ON A COUCH (King’s Head Theatre, London),The Nephew in Lanford Wilson’s BRONTOSAURUS (Lyric Hammersmith, London) and Natwick in James McLure’s Pvt. WARS (Latchmere Theatre, London). Other theatre credits include: Victor in THE PRICE (Manchester, M.E.N. Best Actor award), Parnell James in James Baldwin’s BLUES FOR MR. CHARLIE (Talawa/Tricycle/Wolsey), two seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company including Polixines in THE WINTER’S TALE and Simonides in PERICLES, Paris in TROILUS and CRESSIDA and in ROMEO AND JULIET. Billy Flynn in CHICAGO (Adelphi, West End), John in OLEANNA (Theatre Clwyd), Eddie Carbone in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (Leicester Haymarket), Gerardo in DEATH AND THE MAIDEN (Wolsey Theatre), Mayor Shinn in THE MUSIC MAN and Seymour Fleming in the 70th anniversary production of BABES IN ARMS with Lorna Luft (both for Chichester Festival Theatre), Horace Vandergelder in HELLO DOLLY (Theatre Royal, Lincoln), the title role in JERRY SPRINGER – THE OPERA (UK National Tour), Ed in Michael Frayn’s CLOUDS (UK Tour), Richard in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH with Daryl Hannah (Queen’s, West End), Mr. Robinson in THE GRADUATE with Linda Gray (Gielgud, West End), George in CHAPTER TWO (Middle and Far East tour), Theo in THE FLIP SIDE (The Mill), the title role in DRACULA (Theatre Royal, Plymouth). Most recently he was seen at TJT’s The Floating Lightbulb playing Jerry Wexler and after The Chosen will be working with Aaron Davidman and TJT again with The Sisters Rosensweig in the New Year.
Film work includes; HONEST directed by Dave Stewart, THE VIRTUOSO with Brian Dennehy and Keith Caradine, ENTRAPMENT, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, JOYRIDERS, A TIME FOR DESTINY with William Hurt and Timothy Hutton, THE LORDS OF DISCIPLINE, INVITATION TO THE WEDDING with Sir John Gielgud and Sir Ralph Richardson LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY with Sir Alec Guinness and Rick Schroeder, and the award winning OBEDIENCE.
Rolf has done lead and guest star work for most major television companies in the UK including starring roles in three television series; LOVE HURTS (Alomo/BBC), CAPITAL CITY (Euston/Thames) and PULASKI (BBC).
He has also done dozens of radio plays and documentaries for the BBC and Independent radio throughout the UK. He is the voice of George Stobardt in the popular Broken Sword series as well as the American narrator for the Teletubbies.
